Introduction
The text is written as if it were to be read in Korean, from right to left, top to bottom.
If I am wrong on this, please correct me...this is how I recall my mother explaining to me how she read her Korean Newspaper.
I honestly wasn't sure where I should categorize this, so if anyone has a better idea of what category it goes into, I would appreciate it!
I got this picture of a doorway because it reminded me of possibly being under a bridge type structure, I do not know if that was what this was or not.
I got this beautiful picture from: [link]
The text is...well it's an introduction of me to the world.
The text in a more readable format:
The flies are buzzing on this August day, around an elderly Korean woman sitting underneath a bridge. This is where she lives. There is a basket the flies are hovering around. A newborn baby is inside the basket crying.
A woman, Korean by birth, American by marriage, walks the streets of Korea getting the final preparations to bring her family over to the states. She walks by the elderly woman who recognizes her as an American. The elderly woman tugs on the womans clothing as she passes.
lease, take her. There is no life for her here., the elderly Korean woman says as she pulls the basket towards the American Korean. Look, her eyes. She points out the babys eyes are hazel, not brown like a full Koreans would be. A half-breed baby, even after the war in Korea was over, was not safe and could be killed.
This barren woman, who would never be able to have her own child, takes the baby and gives the elderly Korean woman a little money. She takes the baby to the hospital to pay a doctor to make out a birth certificate claiming she gave birth to the child. She pays a lawyer to help out with this.
The baby has tuberculosis and underdeveloped lungs and is hospitalized for a month before they can get her into the states. The woman calls her American husband to inform him he now has a daughter. His American family tells him not to let her bring the baby. He loves his wife and wont deny her. He is a father now.
The new mother of the baby decides to name her Jewel like in jewelry. For to her, this baby is a precious jewel that she had been denied before. There is a misunderstanding so the name on the birth certificate reads Judy, instead.
I romanticized it a bit..there will be more coming regarding my life, I guess...
Over the course of our relationship (Monty and I), I have told him about my beginning several times, but in bits and pieces here and there. When he saw that piece, he said it finally made sense and he understood more about my life and apparently does when I do pieces that are more personal in nature, like "My Rebirth" and of course this piece.
I will warn you, the rest won't be so sweet, what I didn't say in it was that my mom I know did meet my birth mother once...as she was stumbling drunk out of the post office seeing if my dad had sent word he was coming back to Korea to marry her and bring us to the states as he promised before he left. She fell down crying and onto the street when she left the post office.
As for the mom I know now, she just watched and walked away. Didn't even try to help her.
I can't understand that at all, how cruel it was for her to do that to my birth mother.
My mom I know, was very abusive...this will be coming out in future pieces as I try to help Monty understand all the little quirks and half stories I have let him hear to try to help understand why I am the way I am.
It sounds like you have many stories to tell. I know we just met, but am proud of you for being willing to create and open up, in whatever stages, however you can, when you're comfortable and ready. That takes a huge huge amount of courage. I'll be around. And, so glad to hear, that you will be, too. Keep believing in yourself.
There are a lot of themes that run through the stock gallery many people have similar ideas but they pull them off in different ways. In this series of newsletters we will look at similar ideas but different outcomes.
Daily Literature Deviations is a group that is dedicated to bringing literature to the forefront of the deviantArt community. We attempt to accomplish this by daily featuring Literature artists from around the community that deserve the recognition, but are not getting it.
Each day we will feature 10 deviations from the Literature categories in a News Article. In order to support the artists that we feature, we ask that you the news article as well as check out the individual pieces. We understand that each day you may not be able to check out each and every one of the pieces, everyone has their own things going on. We just ask that you make an attempt to help support the growing Literature community.
When it comes to community spirit, `Rushy is a shining example. From participating in devmeets, to providing positive encouragement to other artists, `Rushy can always be found demonstrating what it really takes to be a true deviant. It's without any hesitation that we are delighted to award the Deviousness Award for July 2009 to `RushyRead More
